Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need a referral from a doctor?
Since July 1st, 2013, Kansas does not require that you have a referral from your physician. The Patient Self-Referral (PSR) bill was passed in the Spring of 2013 and allows patients to access their physical therapist without a referral.   If you have Medicare, you do not need a referral to start physical therapy, however we will need the name of your primary care or specialist physician on file so we can send them your therapy plan of care.

2. How do I schedule a physical therapy appointment?
Contact us at (913) 322-4000 to schedule an appointment and complete required paperwork about your condition prior to arrival.

3. Does my insurance cover physical therapy?
Medical insurance routinely covers Physical Therapy treatment. However, each insurance policy is unique. By providing us with your insurance information, we can check with your policy to determine your Physical Therapy benefits for you. We verify your benefits as a courtesy to you, but ultimately you are financially responsible. Feel free to contact your insurance company if you have further questions regarding your benefits.   Please call us today and our staff will be glad to assist you in determining your benefits. We are contracted as an in-network provider for many common insurance plans, but not all.

4. Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA)?
Yes, you can use your HSA to pay for physical therapy services. If you are not billing your insurance for physical therapy services, please request a detailed receipt from us to provide to your HSA account manager.

5. What if I do not have insurance or want to pay you directly for services?
We offer private pay rates and packages; contact us for more information on self-pay options.

6. What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable that will allow free movement and access to the area we will be treating.  For example, if we're seeing you for your knee, please wear shorts).

7. What will I do on my first visit?
On day 1 we will seek to understand what you have been going through and evaluate you movement system to identify unique opportunties you have to eliminate pain and/or performance deficits.   Your physical therapist will discuss the findings of your evaluation and discuss the recommended plan of care to achieve your goals and lasting results from physical therapy.

8. What is a plan of care?
Each patient's situation is unique, and your plan of care will be established to meet your needs. In your plan of care you physical therapist will recommend how many times a week (frequency) and for how many weeks (duration) they recommend therapy to resolve your problem.  We will also discuss treatment techniques throughout your journey which often include manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, therapeutic activities, self care, gait training, strapping (taping), and/or modalities specifically designed to enhance your healing ability and provide comfort.

9. How long is each physical therapy session?
A typical therapy session last 40-60 minutes depending on your plan of care needs.

10. Who will my physical therapist be?
When you schedule with us, we will pair you with a licensed physical therapist that will see you throughout the entire care process. Based on your scheduling needs and or peer collaboration for specialty services (see services page), you may at times see another provider; however our intention is to keep you with the same provider throughout your therapy plan of care.  We do not have any physical therapy assistants, techs, or aides which means your care will be provided by a doctor of physical therapy.  We work one-on-one with each client throughout your therapy session.

11. What are the benefit of physical therapy?
We have 3 primary goals for your physcial therapy experience.  First, we want to elimante or reduce your pain.  Second, we wnat to resore mobility and function.  Third, we focus on preventing this or similar injuries from recurring.  Our therapists evaluate your movement system, identify the underlying source of your pain, and work with you to manage your condition.  We are experts in managing musculoskeletal and neurological conditions and work closely with physicians, healthcare professionals, and your fitness experts to help you achieve successful and lasting outcomes from physical therapy.

12. What's next after physical therapy?
After completing your course of therapy, your therapist will review your home exercises so you can continue managing your condition or prevent recurrence. We encourage quarterly check-ups to make sure that you have the appropriate home program and we can progress it as indicated.  We also offer a variety of fitness training, performance training, and Pilates training options at our facility.  Upon graduating from physcial therapy, you will confidently know the best steps to continue to optimize your movement system by leveraging your home exercise program, our post care programs, and/or other community fitness offerings.

13. How do I download the CORE Strategies Physical Therapy Exercise App
Go to your app store on your phone or tablet and search for CORE Strategies PT.  Get the App.  If you do this prior to your first PT appointment you will register as a patient.  If you have already been a patient, you can simply log in as a returning client.  If you forgot your password, you can reset your password through the app using the email you used to register.  The exercise app only works on phones or tablets, it does not work on a desktop or laptop commputer.
